Finding Your Place at His Table

Scripture: Matthew 26:26-30

by Pastor Brian Clater

On the night that Jesus was betrayed, He invited His disciples to a meal called the Passover. The Bible says that all twelve were invited, but one particular disciple showed up late and left early. He apparently had something else on his heart and a few coins in his hands. This disciple, named Judas, left before Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper. Let’s examine these verses to see who today can find your seat at the Lord’s Table.

Main Point of the Message:

The good news is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was crucified for our sins. The Bible says that your sins can be forgiven and you can have your seat at His Table (see Romans 10:9; Hebrews 7:25).

Biblical Context:

Matthew 26 shows us what happened on the night that Jesus was betrayed. Jesus had given his disciples instructions about what they should bring and what they should bring to the Lord’s Table. Bring the bread and the wine, but leave your bickering, leave your bitterness, and leave your burdens outside. However, one disciple left the Table to betray Jesus for money. When Judas left the Table, that left a place setting for someone else to take.

Key Questions:

How can I find my place at the Lord’s Table?

Points of the Sermon:

1. You have to K _________.  (See John 8:28-31)

2. You have to L_________ . (See John 13:34; I John 4:19)

3. You have to W ________. (See Psalm 95:6)
