Scripture: Matthew 7:13-14

by Pastor Brian Clater

Introduction:

Life is filled with choices; some are easy, others are hard. We should give careful consideration to the decisions that we make because our destiny oftentimes depends on us making the right decision. The same is true in the spiritual realm. There is a right decision and a wrong one. In this passage, Jesus cautions his hearers to choose wisely because the choice that you make will determine how your life will turn out.

Main Point of the Message:

You can overcome your circumstances by trusting God to meet your need.   (See Psalm 1:1).

Biblical Context:

Jesus is teaching to an audience on a Galilean hillside. He is teaching on God’s standard for righteousness (see Matthew 5:3-5; Matthew 6:33). But in Matthew 7, Jesus summarizes His teaching by telling His hearers that life is really a series of choices. “Choose wisely,” Jesus says, because our earthly destination and our eternal destiny depend on the choice that we make.

Key Questions:

What choices does Jesus present for us in these verses?

Points of the Sermon:

1. There are only two ways   (See Matthew 7:13)

2. There are only two destinations (Matthew 7:13)

3. There are only two gates (Matthew 7:14)
